Silymarin extract

Silymarin extract is made from the dried fruit of Silybum marianum G. The commercial extract is usually labelled as containing 80% total silymarin.

Source of Extract

Silybum marianum is an annual or biennial herb native to southern Europe and North Africa, and has been cultivated and used for thousands of years in Europe and Africa as a folk medicine plant. Silymarin is widely used as a medicine for liver and cardiovascular diseases. It is cultivated in north and northwest China.

Active ingredients

The whole herb contains flavonoids and yohimbeolic acid; the seeds contain silybin, isosilybin, dehydrosilybin, silydianin, silychristin, silymarin polymer and cinnamic, myristic, palmitic and arachidonic acids.
