Polyacrylamide
Polyacrylamide This polymer is hydrophilic (shows an affinity for water) and can form very high concentrations of aqueous solutions. Due to their gel-like properties, these solutions are used as flocculants for the removal of suspended particles in sewage and industrial wastewater, such as those from paper mills. With highly reactive amide (NH2) groups, polymers can be chemically modified to produce positively charged cationic polymers or negatively charged anionic polymers. Ionic polymers are particularly useful for separating metals from residues in various mineral processing and metallurgical operations.
