Dibutyl phthalate
Dibutyl phthalate is the most commonly used plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride, which can make the products have good softness, but the volatility and water extraction are large, thus the durability is poor. Dibutyl phthalate is an excellent plasticizer for nitrocellulose, with strong gelation ability, and is used for nitrocellulose coatings, which have good softening effect. Stability, flex resistance, adhesion and water resistance are better than other plasticizers. Dibutyl phthalate can also be used as plasticizer for polyvinyl acetate, alkyd resin, nitrocellulose, ethyl cellulose and neoprene and nitrile rubber.
Main applications
Reagent for general chemical analysis, fixative for gas chromatography, solvent, insecticide, plasticizer, etc. As a plasticizer, it can make products with good softness, but volatility and water extraction are large, so durability is poor.
